In times like these, you usually want to think back to what people call ‘the good old days’ and reminisce about when life was a little bit easier, slower perhaps. This pic from the new Google Time/Life archive summed it up.

Call me a socialist, but there’s something nice and simple about having a house that can be delivered on wheels, that is compact (ie just what you need) and while it might look just like your neighbour’s, it does what it should – keep you warm and dry, give you a place to lay your head down at night, and eat your breakfast in the morning, spend some time with family, share those good old moments together.

The architecture of Life is timeless. It’s great to know that for a small part of the population, homes like these are back in fashion. That you have hundreds of firms focused on modular houses, green-build structures, and places that feel the right scale for a family of three in the suburbs of Americana. Keep me away from the McMansion and give me a small box to live in any day

—————-
